In this workshop we will review information that will help you hire and retain a veteran. You will learn about:
- How your veteran employees can use the GI Bill for on the job training
- What the Work Opportunity Tax Credit is and how you might be able to benefit if you employ veterans
- How the Troops to Trades program can help you recruit veterans

Hear from veterans who have gone through the Troops to Trades program and learn how you can attract more veterans to your business.
Jeff Allen: Jeff’s father, Marion Allen, a veteran of the Korean war, started Allen Service in 1962. Jeff started working in the company as early as the age of 10 as a stock boy and broom pusher. After working most summers and school breaks through high school as a plumber, he became full time after graduating from the University of Northern Colorado in 1981. Allen Service joined the Nexstar Network in around 1995, and serves on their board of directors. Jeff is now the co-owner of Allen Services, a member of the Troops to Trades Business Network. He currently employs three veterans, but is interested in hiring many more.
Will Blanton: Will is a Nexstar Legacy Foundation board member and Chair of the Troops to Trades and Program Committee. He is owner and president of Blanton’s Heating & A/C Corp. Will currently employs three veterans.
George Johnson: During his 20 years of service in the Army, Lieutenant Colonel Johnson deployed to Haiti during Operation: Uphold Democracy for 15 months; to Saudi Arabia during Operation: Desert Shield (as an enlisted reservist); and for over a year to Iraq during Operation: Enduring Freedom. He served as a brigade fire support officer, responsible for artillery support for thousands of soldiers. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service on a general officer’s staff, four Meritorious Unit Awards, four Army Commendation Medals, and five Army Achievement Medals. George currently works as the General Manager at Rooter MD in Livonia, MI. He will be attending Management School in 2015 through a Troops to Trades training grant, and currently serves as a member of the Troops to Trades program committee.
Brad Krause: Brad Krause serves on the Troops to Trades program committee. He is the owner and president of The Service Professor, Inc. in Grand Rapids, MI. Brad is also a Nexstar Member Trainer, and will be facilitating the workshop and panel discussions for Troops to Trades.
Stephanie Robinson: Stephanie served as a Health Care Specialist/Medical Receptionist for the United States Army for 3 years. After leaving the service, she decided to start a new career in the PHCE industry as a customer service representative. Through a Troops to Trades training grant, she received training at Nexstar’s Call Center School in 2014, and currently works at Blanton’s Heating & A/C in Fayetteville, NC.
Anthony Rodriguez: Anthony was awarded a Bronze Star while in a combat support role for a special operations battalion. He attended HVAC Learning Solutions’ Build-A-Tech training program through a Troops to Trades grant. Anthony recently moved to Charleston, SC and is employed by LimRic Plumbing, Heating & Air.
