Did you know that more than 1.5 million veterans call Florida home? In fact, one in every 13 Floridians is a veteran.

At the Florida Chamber, we believe one of the best ways to honor the service of our veterans is to help them build economicallyimage of veterans parade stable lives when they return home.

Our veterans represent a highly skilled, well-trained talent pool spanning different industries and contributing significantly to Florida’s economy.

And Florida is third in the nation for the greatest number of veteran-owned businesses — generating $61 billion in economic activity and more than 300,000 jobs.

Florida’s efforts to be the most veteran-friendly state in the union have included proactively encouraging businesses to hire veterans.

And it’s working.

Programs and initiatives such as American Jobs for American Heroes, Hiring our Heroes, Veterans Florida and Disney’s Veterans Institute help to ensure that these highly-trained professionals find a career fit for their skills.

Today, unemployment among veterans is less than half of what it was in 2010.

In fact, Florida’s veteran unemployment rate stands at 6.1 percent — below the state and national average.

Our country has invested in training America’s service men and women in more than 100 occupational specialties across the spectrum of virtually every job.

This presents a tremendous opportunity for Florida’s private-sector businesses looking to fill jobs with trained professionals.

At the Florida Chamber, we will continue advocating for those who fought for our freedom, and we celebrate their service on Veterans Day.

And every other day.
